- ■ If there's the original technology, other technologies are a bonus A 3D printer manufacturer Jungrok developed a metal printer when it received a request to produce a prototype of metal material from the Agency for Defense Development. It is an outstanding achievement in the global market where German companies are dominating. It is a technology that can make a prototype by putting metal materials instead of plastic materials. An SME, which makes products based on metal, quickly created prototypes and opened the way for product commercialization. The trust in Jungrok's technology led to the transfer of the original technology. Agency for Defense Development has transferred plasma decontamination technology to Jungrok. Jungrok developed a plasma PCB (Printed Circuit Board) jet system manufacturing technology by converging a metal printer and the original technology. Plasma decontamination technology removes toxicity by sterilizing, deodorizing, and purifying air using plasma. Jungrok has created a module that generates plasma on the PCB. When a carbon material is added here, the amount of plasma generated dramatically increases. It is expected to realize not only the removal of fine dust generated from ships and power plant chimneys but also the decontamination technology required for semiconductor surface treatment and nuclear power plant decommissioning. Commercialization is expected at the end of this year.
- Jungrok's next goal is to develop a metal 3D printer that can produce prototypes of automobile parts. To this end, Jungrok launched a joint research and development project with the UK. It is expected to lead to new growth engines for auto parts companies in Ulsan and Busan. Soo-yeon Lee, 44, CEO of Jungrok, who emphasizes the importance of research and development, believes that the barriers arising from structural limitations for startups to leap forward are high. CEO Lee said, “I had an experience in which I did not receive support for R&D due to the bias of university professors.” Lee also said, “The technology of research institutes and universities should be easily accessible, and a system that encourages technology development of startups and SMEs should be established."
